5 Reasons To Start a Tweetup in Your City

1. Get to know people IN REAL LIFE!
How many people do you follow on Twitter? How many people follow you on Twitter? How many of them have you met in real life? That’s a damn shame isn’t it? Hosting a tweetup allows you to meet the friends you’ve made on Twitter, in a low stress environment.

2. It’s really, really quite easy to do.
It’s pretty easy to start a Tweetup in your city. All you need to do is find a location, decide on a time and date, and then show up! If you want to go the extra step, contact the location and see if they will hook you up with some specials or allow you to host the event in a special room. My good friend David Dellanave has even created a TweetupTheme that you can purchase to make promoting super easy. You can even get sponsors to help pay for drinks and food. One of them is Sponsored Tweets. They make it pretty easy to ask for money :)

3. You get to be the founder of something sweet.
It’s on my resume. I am the founder/organizer of MSPTweetup I think it’s a big deal. It’s a great talking point. It shows that you take initiative to do something for others.

4. Networking out of your network.
Not everyone in your network is interested in social media seminars, marketing presentations, or business chats. At Tweetups, you get an awesome array of different people. From band members to salon managers, to the owners of Chef Shack! You never know who will show up. If you are lucky enough, Mark Cuban will swing by like he did for the past MSPTweetup.

5. It is fun.
This speaks for itself.

So get out there and start something.
