Good Movies On Netflix Instant

netflix instant movies that do not suck

I’m starting this list just for fun. Every time I go to Netflix Instant, it seems like all of the movies suck, so here are some Netflix movies that don’t suck. *last updated 8/30/2011.

Action/Adventure

Limitless. I thought this movie was going to be terrible but it was surprisingly good. Bradley Cooper is always cool. DeNiro makes a few appearances. I’d say that if you’re looking for something entertaining and don’t want to think too much, but also don’t want to be completely braindead, that this would be a great movie for you. Think somewhere in between Memento and any Nicholas Cage movie. 7.5/10.

The Motorcycle Diaries. Young Che Guevera goes on a road trip with his buddy on a motorcycle through South America. Great flick. *subtitled* 8/10.

Iron Man 2. Like Iron Man 1. Roberto Downey Junior is always fun to watch. Nice explosions, good action. This is one of those movies that you watch when you want stimulation without the thought process. 6.5/10.

A Clockwork Orange. This is a dark, dark classic film based on the book with the same name. It’s a great movie, and a great depiction of the book. Highly recommend. Do not watch it with your kids. 7.5/10.

Drama

Rabbit Hole. I liked it. My girlfriend loved it. It’s pretty depressing and really quite demanding in terms of “emotional attachment” during the film. You really need to be committed for this one. Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart give the best performances of their careers. The relationship of a married couple grieving over the loss of their four-year old son…if that sounds like something you’re into, you’ll like this.  7/10.

Brothers. It’s been a while since I watched this movie but I do remember liking it. It’s very dramatic and will keep you on the edge of your seat. That one bro, Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my favorite actors. 6/10.

One Week.  This was actually a pretty good flick. Joshua Jackson (of Dawson’s Creek fame) plays a guy who finds out he is terminally ill…so he hops one his motorcycle and just rides, hoping to discover ‘the grump’. 7.5/10.

Full Metal Jacket.  Super killer flick. I really, really dig this classic war movie. Great acting. Not much else to say other than, WATCH IT! 8.5/10.

Rain Man. Don’t judge me. I just watched this for the first time ever in my entire life on 9/7/2011. It was good. It wasn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen, but if you haven’t seen it, it’s a nice piece of American cinemadom to explore. Tom Cruise is awesome. Dustin Hoffman is incredible. 7.5/10.

Comedy

The Big Lebowski. I named my dog after The Dude. Grab some buds and watch this. 10/10.

I Love You Phillip Morris. This movie was pretty good. It wasn’t laugh-out-loud funny or anything, but it’s pretty interesting because it’s based on a true story. Jim Carrey is the main actor and plays a gay con-man (alongside Ewan McGregor). Doesn’t get much better than that, does it? 6/10.

Documentary

Life In A Day.  Simply an amazing film. I walked away thinking “wow, life is amazing.” This movie takes you on a fascinating journey around the world using footage that was shot by regular people around the globe. 9/10.

Restrepo. A documentary about war. It takes place on the ground in Afghanistan. It’s pretty emotional. I liked it. Thank you troops. 8/10.

When You’re Strange. Pretty good flick about The Doors. Lots of original footage. Nice little history refresher. 6.5/10.

TV Shows

Sons of Anarchy.

Breaking Bad. I don’t like this show anymore.

Parks & Recreation.
