A friends success is equal to my own.
There is nothing more inspiring or more motivating than seeing my own friends succeed.
Seeing friends do well is all I really need to keep me going. They inspire me to do what I love and motivate me to do what I love, better.
Motivation is the force that pushes us to achieve our goals. Motivation kicks in when we’re chasing our dreams, and just like all other emotions, motivation is contagious. It’s infectious. It’s viral by nature.
My friends and I have a symbiotic mutualistic relationship. We feed off each other. Here are some of the people who have contributed to my personal motivation, each in a very different, and unique way:
- Cydney Wuerffel, who has a job that she loves at Fast Horse.
- Chris Cloud, who left his job to dedicate his time to creating/loving @mplstv.
- David Dellanave, who is opening a second gym (Movement Minneapolis) after opening his first a little over a year ago.
- Jared Roy, who is chasin’ the dream and is moving to Portland to take on big role at Webtrends.
- Erica Meyer, for deciding to start a journey in weight-loss and isn’t afraid to talk about it.
- Mike Mann, who left MN for LA to find a big job at a big agency…and sure enough, he found what he was looking for.
- Greg Martin, of Urban Bean Coffee who is opening a second shop because the perfect opportunity presented itself.
- Betsy Treinen, who I just ran into at a coffee shop this morning who left her old job to start Good People Branding.
- Clever Kate & (her brother), who are aiding in the hipness of Minneapolis by opening sweet spots like REPUBLIC.
- Drew Wood, who is kick-ass, and took on the role of the first-ever editor of the Minneapolis Thrillist.
- Dan Comerchero, who is a college kid with an iPhone app called Quiztones.
- Mimi Jamaleldin, my supportive girlfriend, who recently dove into the world of PR with a splash, first at Roepke, now at Bolin.
- Don Ball, who is the coworking advocate of MPLS / Saint Paul.
As you can see, this isn’t about quitting your job. It’s about doing what you love.
I don’t care if you’re a barista, a musician, a visual artist, a public relations person, a model, a photographer, a general contractor, a commercial real estate agent, a restaurant owner, a mechanic or an employee.
As long as you are who you want to be, that’s okay with me.
Cheers, to all my friends.
